Michigan Walleye Adventures

Captain Ron Barry's

Lake St. Clair, "Smallmouth Capitol of the World!"

Seasons

Spring (April - May)

Great for Walleye! Late March through the end of May has probably the best walleye fishing in the world! Walleyes from 5 to 9 pounds are very common, with several reaching 11 and 12 pounds. For one of these trips, you have to book EARLY!

Summer (June - August)

Great for Walleye & Smallmouth Bass! June begins a number of exciting trips onto Lake Erie trolling for walleyes averaging 2 to 4 pounds. Although not as large as the spring run fish pulling 25 to 40 fish a day is not uncommon.

Fall (September - October)

Great for Perch! September through November means perch fishing - and lots of 'em! Lake Erie perch are some of the best eating fish anywhere. With large perch limits available, get ready to catch a lot of fish. Don't forget to bring the family for this one!

What to Bring

All fishing gear and bait are supplied for you and is quality equipment - no shortcuts in this department! You may, however, choose to bring a favorite rod and reel if you desire, just ask the captains advice for proper setup. Not all equipment is created equal for most of the fishing we do requires specialty rods and reels. You should consider bringing any snacks or beverages that you'd like on board for the day. Remember to dress for the occasion, rain gear, sunglasses, lotion, hats, etc.

Make sure to bring official identification of citizenship (passport, birth certificate or enhanced drivers license) and don't forget to get the proper fishing license! Considering we may be fishing Canadian waters it's important to be ready for inspection of the authorities. Typically this goes very smoothly and they are just doing their jobs. Click here for information on how to obtain a license.

Where to Meet

All charters are conducted on the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair or Lake Erie. But because fish are naturally migratory, it's impossible to know exactly where the best fishing will be until a day or two before the charter. For that reason, the Captain trailers his boat from port to port following the fish as they move. You will receive a phone call a couple of days before your trip to receive directions to the closest location to the largest school of fish.
